Background Remover and Product Photo Maker
Remove a plain, even background from a product or document photo, refine the edge and download a transparent PNG or a solid-colour image.
Loading the tool…
This tool removes a plain, even background by comparing colours near the edges of the image. It is useful for a product photo on a white sheet, a document photo against a wall or a simple graphic on a solid colour. It is not an AI segmenter and it will struggle with busy scenes, hair, transparent objects and a background that is similar to the subject.
How to use it
- Start with a clean photo. A plain background, even light and a clear gap between the subject and the edges work best. A shadow can be part of the subject or part of the background; this tool does not understand the difference.
- Add the image. JPEG, PNG and WebP are supported. Very large images are reduced to a working size so the browser can process the pixels reliably.
- Adjust tolerance. Low tolerance removes only colours very close to the sampled background. High tolerance removes more, but may eat into the subject. Watch the preview and undo if it goes too far.
- Refine the edge. Softness blends the cutout edge. It is a visual improvement, not a repair for a bad source. Use the erase and restore brushes for small mistakes.
- Choose an output. Transparent PNG keeps the cutout. A solid background colour is useful for a marketplace or profile image that does not accept transparency. Download the result.
How the cutout works
The tool samples colours around the border, estimates a background colour and measures each pixel’s distance from it. Pixels beyond the tolerance become transparent; pixels near the edge can be partially transparent according to the softness setting. This is a deterministic image operation. It does not recognise a person, a product or a category of object.
Because it is colour-based, a white shirt against a white wall may lose part of the shirt. A green plant against a green screen may keep some background. A shadow under a product may survive as a dark patch. The right fix is usually a better source photo, not a higher tolerance.
Good uses
- Making a product photo on a white background ready for a simple listing.
- Putting a document or signature on a transparent background.
- Preparing a logo or simple graphic with a flat background.
- Replacing a solid colour behind a profile object with a neutral colour.
- Cleaning up a screenshot or scanned item with a plain border.
Do not use it to fake an official document, remove a watermark you do not own or misrepresent a product’s condition. The tool is an image editor, not a licence to alter evidence.
Limits
- Plain backgrounds only: busy scenes, gradients, textured walls and multiple background colours are likely to fail.
- Hair and fine edges: strands, fur and transparent glass are difficult. The softness control helps but cannot reconstruct detail.
- Working size: the image may be reduced to the stated maximum dimension. The output is based on that working copy, not the original full resolution.
- No AI: there is no segmentation model or server API. The page says this plainly.
- No batch mode: process one image at a time and check each result.
Privacy
The image is decoded and edited in this browser. It is not uploaded to OmniEmu. The working pixels stay in the tab and are cleared when you reset or close it. If you download a PNG, remember that the file may still contain metadata from the original; this tool does not claim to sanitise every metadata field.
Frequently asked questions
Why did it remove part of my subject?
The subject contains colours close to the background. Lower the tolerance, use the restore brush, or use a source photo with more contrast between the subject and the wall.
Can it remove a person from a room?
Not reliably. That requires object segmentation, which this tool does not have. A plain backdrop or a dedicated AI service is a different workflow with different privacy and licensing questions.
Does it keep the original resolution?
The working copy may be capped at the maximum dimension shown in the interface. The download uses that working size. If you need full resolution from a very large image, crop first or use a desktop editor.
Is the output really transparent?
The download is always a PNG. Transparent mode keeps transparency; white or custom mode replaces it with the chosen solid colour. Check the checkerboard preview and open the downloaded file in another app before publishing it.
Can I undo a brush stroke?
Use the reset button to return to the automatic cutout, or use the restore brush to paint the subject back. Reloading the page clears the working image.
